K-8 Summer Reading Lists

 

Welcome to the K-8 Malden Public Schools Summer Reading Program!

At Malden Public Schools, we are committed to fostering a love for reading and supporting learning beyond the school year. To help promote academic growth and joyful literacy practices over the summer, we are excited to share our summer reading lists for entering the 2026-2027 school year. 

This summer, our reading lists for K-8 students are grouped by topic. We encourage all students to embrace the adventure of summer reading and immerse themselves in a diverse selection of literature that reflects their interests and inspires exploration. We hope that your family can read together about a topic you love and share those interests across all ages and reading preferences.

Additionally, we are proud to be part of a multilingual community with more than 65 languages spoken by our families! Please know that it is good for your child to read, write, and speak in all of the languages you use at home! In our lists are books in multiple languages that families can read together, but there are also many other choices in our local library and in your homes. We would love to update our recommended books list with the books your families are loving! Below, you’ll also see some opportunities for you to let us know what you’re reading.

In addition to the texts listed above, we have optional activities you can complete this summer below. These are intended to help you and are just a starting point for the possible literacy activities you might try with your child.

  • Write a letter of recommendation for your teachers, print and complete a recommendation, or record a video to share your book review with others.
  • Draw a scene from the book you loved or make a new cover for the book!
  • Act out a scene with friends and family members.
  • Try out a recipe for a food described in a book and let us know how it went!
  • Read about one of the teams playing in the World Cup and make a poster with what you learned!
  • Try building something new like some of our inventors in our books!
  • Listen to a new song or try a new instrument described in one of our books– share your review or record a video!
