Math

Eureka Math Squared (used in Grades K-5) is a rigorous, problem-based math curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in key mathematical concepts.  It focuses on fostering deep understanding through hands-on activities, visual learning, and problem solving.  

Students are encouraged to explore math concepts deeply, with a focus on understanding the "why" behind the math, not just the "how."  Lessons center around real-world problems that engage students in applying mathematical thinking.  The curriculum emphasizes active student engagement, supporting teachers with facilitating valuable discourse grounded in the language of math.  

The K-5 curriculum provides a clear progression of skills and a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics that prepares students for future learning in math.
 

Middle school students learn math using Open Up Resources 6–8 Math, an engaging, problem-based curriculum designed to support coherence, focus and rigor with every lesson.

Mathematics is part of the core of the general curriculum at Malden High School.  The goal of the Mathematics Department is for students to learn mathematical structure, concepts, critical thinking, and problem solving. These skills will help prepare them for life and career readiness, in addition to future academic success.  A sound mathematics background will have a positive influence on students’ decisions to prepare them for future occupations.  

The Math department teaches students using an integrated math curriculum provided by Carnegie Learning. The sequence of courses for students is Math 1, Math 2, and Math 3. Following successful completion of these courses, students continue to learn math concepts and skills via a fourth-year student-selected elective course in math.
