Michael Sabin Named Next Principal of Malden High School (effective July 1st)

[March 2, 2026]

Malden Public Schools Superintendent Timothy Sippel announced today the appointment of Michael Sabin as the next principal of Malden High School (MHS), effective July 1, 2026.

“We are excited to welcome Michael Sabin to Malden,” stated Superintendent Sippel. “The expertise he brings from many years as an urban school leader will be an asset as we continue our work to do right by all kids.”

Mr. Sabin is currently the Executive Director of School Transformation for Boston Public Schools, leading work within the district to support a large caseload of schools who are identified by the state as needing assistance. He collaborates with principals and school leadership teams to raise achievement, including in some of Boston’s most complex high schools, and schools have made significant academic growth and exited state intervention with his support.

Mr. Sabin’s building leadership experience includes seven years as a middle school principal in Waltham, as well as twelve years as an impactful K–8 principal in Boston and Somerville. Previously, he served as an administrator and classroom educator in Cambridge and Lawrence, including seven years as a bilingual teacher, and taught high school for a year in Colombia. A Harvard-educated administrator, Mr. Sabin is fluent in Spanish and holds Massachusetts High School Principal licensure.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the team at Malden High School,” said Mr. Sabin. “I look forward to working with all of the teachers, students and families to build on the school’s great traditions and meet the needs of all community members."

Mr. Sabin emerged as the top candidate for the position after two rounds of interviews, the first with a community panel that included staff, students, caregivers, and community members, and a second with senior district leaders. As the finalist, Mr. Sabin visited Malden High on February 26 to meet with students, faculty and staff, members of the School Committee, and parents and caregivers. Lastly, he engaged in a final interview with the Superintendent.

Established in 1857, Malden High School is a diverse, inclusive community of over 1,800 students in grades 9-12. Ranked by Niche as the most diverse high school in Massachusetts, MHS represents over 55 countries and 40 languages. The school strives to provide an environment where every student can thrive and prepare for the widest range of post-secondary aspirations.
