MAX Courage Essay Contest Winners

MAX Courage Essay Contest Winners

Every year, the Grade 6 ELA classes at Salemwood participate in an essay contest sponsored by the MAX Courage Foundation. We are proud to announce that this year their are two winners from the Salemwood School!

The students and their families will attend a luncheon in May with the other winners to be presented with an award recognizing their accomplishment of becoming a published author!

The MAX Courage Foundation was created in memory of Max Warburg by his parents. Max was a young man who exemplified the true meaning of courage throughout his battle with Leukemia.

As part of the unit, students engage in a curriculum that introduces them to Max’s story. They explore different types of courage, reflect on what courage means in their own lives, and read personal narratives written by sixth-grade students from around the world. This learning experience prepares students to write their own narrative essay about what courage means to them.

At the conclusion of the unit, students’ essays are submitted to the foundation for review. The essays go through a formal judging process, and selected winners are published in the foundation’s annual anthology.
