Malden Students win Journalism Awards - 2026

The Blue and Gold, the student-run newspaper of Malden High School, entered many individual pieces for consideration in the annual New England Scholastic Press Association contest.

Student pieces placed in four individual achievement categories:

• Honorable Mention, Photo Gallery: Kevin Prum's series “Thaw the ICE” Protests Strike the US.
• Honorable Mention, Multimedia -- Interactive Graphic: Abyan Ali's "The Fine Art of Cartooning
• Second Place Winner, Photo -- News/Feature, Farris Qranfaln's "Connor Long leaning in to engage the passengers during an interactive moment on the tour."
• Third Place Winner, Newspaper Editorial, The Senior Editorial Staff (Chouaib Saidi, Jacob Fuentes, Delina Yohannes, Gabriela Parini Cordova, and Jenayah Moreno) for " Hitting the Ground Listening, A Letter for Upcoming Malden High Principal, Michael Sabin"

Advisor Ryan Gallagher shared, "Congratulations to the individual winners and the staff, especially the editors, for the well-deserved recognition of their teamwork and the seriousness with which they train their staff to honor the legacy of the Malden High students who have served as editors and student journalists for over a century to provide impactful reporting for their community."
